It’s hard to have a cabbage soup diet without the cabbage soup! Even if you aren’t planning on taking on the cabbage diet the soup can be excellent just as a standard meal, it is a great source of fiber, it’s low in calories, it’s filling and if you have the right recipe it can be delicious also!

There are many different variations on the right soup for the cabbage diet, I like to encourage adding your own spices and vegetables as you see fit, just make sure you check with your doctor before starting on the diet!

Original Cabbage Soup Recipe

  • 1 full cabbage head
  • 6 average onions
  • 6 green onions
  • 6 carrots
  • 5 celery stalks
  • A couple (2) bell peppers
  • 3 big tomatoes
  • 4 ounces of uncooked brown rice
  • Freshly-ground black pepper and salt to taste

Find a large enough pot for all of your soup then cut all of your veggies and place them in the pot and enough cold water to cover your ingredients. Bring the water to the boil and then lower the heat and leave it uncovered to simmer for 10 minutes.


After the ten minutes has passed place a cover over the pot and allow to the soup to simmer for around another 15 minutes or until your vegetables are soft.


During this simmering stage you can use your spare time to cook your brown rice! Once the soup is done simmering and the veggies are soft simply mix in the rice and then add your salt and pepper to taste and you are ready to go!

Fast Cabbage Soup Recipe

  • 46 oz of tomato juice (usually 1 bottle)
  • 2 table spoons of dehydrated onion flakes
  • 7 table spoons of lemon juice
  • 2 cups of cabbage
  • 2 soup cubes
  • ½ cup water
  • dash of honey to taste


This one is a little bit simpler (and quicker, as the name suggest) then the previous recipe, simply combine the ingredients in a pot and bring the mixture to a boil. Allow the soup to simmer for 10 to 15 minutes and voila, you have a super fast cabbage soup.
